This was our first week of starting to learn about technology in our class and it was awesome. We talked lots about open education as well as FIPPA. FIPPA stands for FREEDOM OF INFORMATION AND PROTECTION OF PRIVACY ACT. It is so important to see know about this when it comes to being a teacher while also using technology. We are seeing technology being used greatly in our classrooms now and it is super important to keep certain information private and protect both ourselves and our students. We had a lot of discussion about this as a class and I thought it was very interesting to see what everyone had to say and lots of great ideas were brought up. I think it is important to understand FIPPA to its full extent and then have the conversation with yourself and your co workers to discuss the importance of it to your school and how you can help keep the students safe in your school through this.

We discussed a few resources for teachers as well today. There are so many free ones that are AWESOME for teachers especially new and up and coming ones like us. It was super interesting to see all the different kinds of resources out there and that there really are so many for so many different subjects. I feel like you could find one for just about everything. It eased my mind a little bit because I was starting to feel stressed about how I could deliver certain things in my classroom so I am so excited to explore them more and try them out.

We also watched the movie Most Likely To Succeed. I really enjoyed this movie and thought it was quite informative in its own ways. One thing that I liked from the movie that I have seen lots of others like it as well, but High Tech High was open for the parents to browse around and for the students to showcase their work. I always loved open house nights at our school because I loved showing my parents what we got to do at school. Now that I am older and becoming an educator I want to take that with me because students tend to do better knowing their parent is going to see it than if just the teacher was going to see it. I really like the idea of an open house aspect and to tell kids “Okay your parents are going to see this and they are super excited to see it just as I am” because they will be excited to show their parents and therefore put a lot more effort into their project. Overall I really enjoyed this movie but this was my biggest take away.
